Jabba's Throne

One of my recent Star Wars purchases was Jabba's Throne playset. I'm planning to make this the centerpiece of my Tattooine collection and I've already purchased some of the aliens seen in Jabba's palace.

The playset came in a nicely designed big box together with lots of fasteners and tape. Lots and lots of tape.

Be careful while unpacking the items because you might accidentally cut the black string taped behind Oola the Dancing girl's container. That's actually a leash connected to Oola's neck!

The stone dais is nicely detailed with sculptured chain rings and nice stone texturing. And it rolls! A pack contains a variety of pillows that can be positioned on the dais. Towards the back of a dais is a stand that carries Jabba's hookah. and a very nicely detailed piece this is! Salacious Crumb, Jabba's jester, is a Kowakian monkey-lizard and comes with articulation. Cool!

Oola, the ill-fated Twi'lek dancing slave girl, is a fantastic figure! With 14 points of articulation, the figure is quite poseable. Some annohying flash and mold release lines on her arms need to be shaved off though and I can't quite understand the extra bit of length on her elbows. But her dress is fantastic. The flimsy net costume is a separate piece attached to the figure, not a mesh effect sculpted on the limbs and body. Her features are pretty delicate and the piant apps are nice. Too bad though that her leku are not poseable.

Now the best part -- Jabba himself! Jabba's bulky, large and very well detailed. His tail is poseable and can be twisted and bent around. Detail is very good with nice paint apps and extra attention to detail. His face featurers bloodshot eyes and drool! He also has his tattoo and his scar. His torso and arms can be reposed and they work well.

I picked this piece up for around $48, which was quite expensive since this retailed in the U.S. at around $20 back in 2010. Worth the purchase though and I'm pretty happy with the set. I'm actually building my collection with this set as the main theme. So far, I've managed to score a few of the denizens portrayed as being members of Jabba's criminal empire. More on these figs soon.

The Nightmare Before Christmas: Doctor Finkelstein

Doctor Finkelstein is a resident of Halloween Town. He is the mad scientist and the "father" of Sally. He is described as a pale-as-a-sheet mad scientist with a duckbill-like mouth and a hinged skullcap that he can open up to reveal his brain. Doctor Finklestein lives in a large observatory with his living rag doll creation Sally and his hunchbacked assistant Igor. James Whale's Frankenstein is quoted in Finklestein's line "I made you with my own hands" which is ironic as Finklestein's body appears to be largely if not entirely artificial. Unlike Frankenstein who takes no responsibility for his creations and disowns them almost as soon as they are completed (much like the original Dr. Frankenstein), Finklestein takes full responsibility over Sally and acts as an over-protective father and in some ways an overbearing husband (thus explaining Sally's attempts to run away) by keeping her under lock and key under the pretext of shelterin...

Batmobile from Batman Beyond

This new flying Batmobile was first introduced in the Batman Beyond episode, "Black Out", when Terry McGinnis had to pursue the shape shifting criminal Inque, and has used it ever since. It can be assumed that Bruce Wayne must have built it some time after he retired as Batman, as when he retired, that sort of technology was probably not present yet to make that sort of Flying car, and its design is more similar to other flying cars of the Beyond era. Its design is a radical departure from the usual style of Batmobiles, as they usually have a bat motif, from a bat faceplate on the grill, to tail fins resembling bat wings. The new Batmobile is a simple sleek pod with sharp angles and rounded sides. Its interior is a red illuminated single person cockpit, with computer circuitry and displays visible all around.  The New Batmobile has shown to have various gadgets and abilities. Among them are     An interface that connects the Batmobile wit...
