MARS Heroes

Hello 2012! As I start sorting out the stuff I was blessed with this Christmas, let me start the 2012 entries with this little gem I found in a department store toy section. It's a line of articulated action figures made by HAP-P-KID Toy Group ( the link works but the site is still under construction) of Hong Kong.

MARS Heroes Marine Trooper on card, M.A.R.S HEROES is an action figure series by a company called HAP-P-KID that consists of nine figures. There are three types -- Marine Troopers, Martian Aliens and MegaBots -- with three varieties for each. Each figure is about 3 and 3/4 to four inches tall and is built up with about 13 pieces, all have ball joints, and interchange with each other.

For an action figure that costs roughly around a dollar and fifty (around PHP 80.00) this toy rocks. Each figure is built up with around 13 ball and socket parts and are interchangeable with each other. No need to unscrew parts, pop open torsos with socks and pliers, etc. Details for each are top-rate with pretty nice design considerations as well as crisp details. Paint apps are clean and neat. And the poseability rocks! They kinda remind me of the magnetic microman line or the micronauts figures. Heck, these guys look better than some of the more expensive action figures out there.

MARS Heroes Card Back

The line I saw consisted of three varieties with three types for each variety -- Marine Troopers, Martian Aliens and MegaBots. Each figure is about 3 and 3/4 to four inches tall and comes with 2 weapons each. I picked up some of the Marine Troopers first and will be definitely looking for the other figures in the series. Thumbs up for these guys!

More pics soon!

BBI Elite Force M1 Abrams

Just a quickie today, still got a ton of work to finish. It's a BBI Elite Force 1:18 M1 Abrams MBT! A coworker decided to streamline his collection and sold me this tank and two humvees. More pics soon when I get a chance to pose them with my G.I. Joes.

The Nightmare Before Christmas: Doctor Finkelstein

Doctor Finkelstein is a resident of Halloween Town. He is the mad scientist and the "father" of Sally. He is described as a pale-as-a-sheet mad scientist with a duckbill-like mouth and a hinged skullcap that he can open up to reveal his brain. Doctor Finklestein lives in a large observatory with his living rag doll creation Sally and his hunchbacked assistant Igor. James Whale's Frankenstein is quoted in Finklestein's line "I made you with my own hands" which is ironic as Finklestein's body appears to be largely if not entirely artificial. Unlike Frankenstein who takes no responsibility for his creations and disowns them almost as soon as they are completed (much like the original Dr. Frankenstein), Finklestein takes full responsibility over Sally and acts as an over-protective father and in some ways an overbearing husband (thus explaining Sally's attempts to run away) by keeping her under lock and key under the pretext of shelterin

The Nightmare Before Christmas: Lock, Shock and Barrel

Lock, Shock, and Barrel are introduced as Oogie Boogie's not-so-loyal "little henchmen." Lock, Shock, and Barrel are not really loyal to Oogie as they are simply making mischief for their own fun and to stay on his good side (in other words: they serve him out of fear) and after his death they just have harmless fun, which they seem to enjoy more; however, this is contrasted by their lack of common sense as, presumably due to their lust for mischief they have shown no protest when their master was revived in the spinoffs, and once out of boredom revived him themselves in "Oogie's Revenge".. They all three are trick-or-treaters, with masks similar to their faces(e.g. Barrel's skeleton mask is large and round to fit his face. And has a huge grin on it and he has a near-permanent creepy smile). Their names are a play on the phrase, "lock, stock, and barrel." Though not totally antagonistic, they are usually the comedy relief. They appea
